As founder and principal trainer of the Coffee Training Institute Robert Hensley has taught coffee buying, roaster technology, equipment operation, quality management, and coffee cupping and analysis to clients and students worldwide. Building on the foundation of his lifelong love of coffee and early training in specialty coffee and tea with Peet's Coffee and Tea, Mr. Hensley has gained a reputation as one of the foremost coffee experts in the world today. In 1988, Robert joined Probat USA, the worlds largest manufacturer of coffee roasting and processing equipment. There he began conducting roaster trainings, and teaching the Probat Coffee Workshops. Today he continues to serve as a consultant to Probat and their customers as principal trainer for product quality and flavor development. Mr. Hensley is a sought after spokesman throughout the industry and has presented numerous seminars and speeches for industry organizations such as the National Coffee Association, the Specialty Coffee Association of America, and was one of the keynote speakers at the 2002 Pacific Coast Coffee Association conference. Today he continues to teach, consult, assist companies with their equipment needs and supply green coffees through his company West Coast Specialty Coffee.
To date more than 700 companies have participated in CTI workshops. Attendees have covered the entire spectrum of coffee backgrounds from farmers, to roasters, exporters, to shop owners. Students have traveled from every corner of the globe to attend CTI classes.
